When I was preparing our itinerary, I initially included Yung Kee Restaurant because I heard they make the best roast duck in all of Hong Kong. As I did more research, I found out that there’s one restaurant in the Tsim Sha Tsui area that is the best alternative to Yung Kee when it comes to roast duck. Also, it has been heralded as one of the best and most affordable restaurants that serve Cantonese food. It’s no other than Guang Dong Barbecue Restaurant.
Little did I know that Guang Dong Barbecue Restaurant would just be next to our hotel. We passed by it almost everyday and always noticed this Bill Clinton photo posted at the window. It says: Bill Clinton loves Guangdong Siu Mei.
It’s a small restaurant but it never runs out of customers. It’s not super clean but the food is so good it totally makes up for what it lacks in tidiness. The waiters are friendly and while not comfortable with the English language, communicating with them wasn’t a hassle. Besides, I think the owner has a good sense of humor. I’m amused by the Bill Clinton photo and this wall design inside that says: “One country two systems Great policy Guang Dong Barbecue Restaurant Great choice.” Whatever that really means
At least I proved that it’s really a great choice!
I didn’t order anything fancy. I just wanted something to go with rice. Most bloggers would say that the roast duck is the winner but I ordered their Honey Roasted Pork, or you can say barbecue pork and you’ll get the same thing.
It looked good, it smelled good, and it tasted more than I expected. The pork was cooked to perfection. The skin was crispy and flavorful, and the meat was soooo tender. It came with steamed Chinese cabbage which matched the pork so well.
We went there for dinner and couldn’t help but think about how good the pork was even after we went back to the hotel. Thus, before heading to the airport the following day, we knew that we had to do one more thing before going home: TO EAT AT GUANG DONG BARBECUE RESTAURANT AGAIN.
And we did just exactly so. We ordered the same thing and went “oomph” with every bite. Best done with eyes closed.
Would I recommend Guang Dong Barbecue Restaurant? Most definitely! Their dishes are yummy, their prices are affordable, and they have very quick service.
As of the time I’m writing this, I’m actually thinking about going back to Hong Kong not only to buy that one “thing” I didn’t buy but to be able to eat at Guang Dong Barbecue Restaurant again
Guang Dong Barbecue Restaurant is located at G/F, 37 Cameron Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.

be carefull for non Chinese speaker. you will be given a tourist menu if you ask for the english menu which the price is double than the normal menu. There are others shops with a reasonable price and same quality of taste.
